Annotation:

Lumbees and Blacks in Robeson County during the Henry Berry Lowry period exemplifed a lower-class subculture’s Reconstruction response to the gentry. Uses census records to describe the social stratification of Settlement (Scuffletown) residents.  The Lowry Band revitalized Lumbees to strive for better conditions.
