Annotation:

Raleigh’s Lost Colony was not really lost; it was absorbed by the friendly “Croatan” Indians. The “mysterious Croatan Indians” in Robeson County, who “have gifts that usually belong to the white race,” might be “direct descendants of the famous Lost Colony.” Croatans are “totally unlike any other Indians in North America … They do not look at all like typical Indians; nor is their folklore Indian, but English.”
