Annotation: 

In a news conference at the Pow-Wow Restaurant (Pembroke), Howard Brooks announced that he was elected, on December 15, chief of the Tuscarora Indians of Robeson and Adjacent Counties.  The goals of the organization were to “present a unified voice when making demands,” restore Indian schools to Robeson County, and support AIM activities at Wounded Knee.  Also attending were Bob Garvey of AIM and Bill Sargent, executive director of the Eastern National AIM Office in Lumberton.
