Annotation:

On Thursday, January 19, 2017, a public forum was held to discuss the Public Schools of Robeson County’s Board of Education. Nearly 150 people attended. The discussion was led by Matthew Scott.

This came just a little over a week after a controversial surprise vote to fire Superintendent Tommy Lowry and hire Tom Graves in his place. On January 17, the School Board rescinded Graves’ hiring after realizing it may have violated School Board policy. The six who voted to fire Lowry and hire Graves were all served lawsuits and did not attend the public forum.

While some are calling for the six to be fired, School Board attorneys say they can’t be, but they could choose to resign for peer pressure among other reasons. In the meantime, Shanita Wooten, who was named the interim superintendent after Lowry was fired, will stay in the position until everything is sorted out.
