Annotation:

This WRAL news story reports that "federal officials are looking into" Tribal Council members' travel expenditures for conference attendance. The "thousands of dollars" of expenditures by eighteen Tribal Council members in the past year were for conferences in Hawaii; San Antonio, TX; Albuquerque, NM; Alaska; and Reno, NV. U.S. Senator Elizabeth Dole's office released a statement that HUD investigators had found no wrongdoing when they looked into the matter several months ago, and that she had looked into it again recently (after WRAL's story aired). WRAL adds that the U.S. Attorney's Office and the FBI would neither confirm nor deny investigating the matter.
