Annotation:

The inauguration ceremony for the newly seated tribal chairwoman Sharon Hunt is scheduled for 6:30pm on June 14, 2011.

Formerly vice chairwoman of the tribe, Hunt took over as chairwoman following the resignation of Purnell Swett on May 23, 2011.

The Lumbee Constitution states that the tribal vice chairman assumes the office until a special election can be held to elect a new chairman to finish the remainder of Swett's term. Swett, who took office in January 2010, resigned with a little more than a year and a half remaining on his term.

Hunt was sworn in on May 23, 2011 by Lumbee Supreme Court Chief Justice Gary Locklear, shortly after Swett's resignation became final. Hunt confirmed at the May 19 Tribal Council meeting that she will retain her seat on the council while she serves as chairwoman.
