Discusses Michael Cummings, who has been chosen president of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. He is the first Native American and first Robesonian to fill the position, which represents over one million Southern Baptists. Cummings received his degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest. He served as minister of New Bethel Baptist Church in Sampson County and Mount Airy Baptist Church, near Pembroke. Beginning in 1988, he was director of missions for Burnt Swamp Baptist Association, comprised of 65 Indian churches.
