Le, Thuy Thanh Thi, and Helen Johnson-Wall. "Colorectal cancer: Improving screening in a rural clinic." Journal of Clinical Oncology 37, no. 15 supplement. May 26, 2019.
In this study, the authors conducted a retrospective chart review at Lumberton Medical Clinic. They examined 1,622 records from September, 2017-August, 2018 for adults aged 50-75. They discovered that a large percentage (44%) of adults were not being adequately screened. Their finding was particularly important because Robeson County's mortality rate from colorectal cancer is higher than the state average. They state that 40% of deaths from late-stage colorectal cancer might be prevented by a routine screening. [Annotation based on the online abstract.]
