Annotation:

On June 2, 2016, at the Lumbee Tribe’s inaugural Lumbee Economic Summit, United States Senator Richard Burr was the guest speaker, showing the close relationship between Tribal Chairman Harvey Godwin Jr. and Burr since Godwin was elected.

More than 200 people were in attendance at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke to engage in the event and hear Burr speak. Burr used the opportunity to voice his strong support for the military and the importance of moving into the 21st century. He also relayed that corporate taxes need to be lowered in order for businesses to be able to compete and adapt to the economy, among other points.

Burr also ventured to Robeson Community College (RCC) to visit the Health Science building and Medical Simulation lab, the latter opening a year ago because of a $25 million grant from the United States Department of Labor that is shared between RCC and 5 other colleges.
