Woolverton, Paul. "One year later, roundtable at UNC Pembroke focuses on Hurricane Matthew’s lessons." Fayetteville Observer [Fayetteville, NC]. October 5, 2017.

Annotation:

At a roundtable at UNC Pembroke, speakers posited that Hurricane Matthew gave lessons on how to respond to a disaster. One thing learned was that systems are needed to organize donations and volunteers. North Carolina Emergency Management Director Mike Sprayberry said, "'I want to tell you: You all are leading the way in the state as far as the recovery… By working together, that’s the way we’re going to move ahead and get things done’” (para. 10). Officials hope to see better communication between town and county governments and reopened businesses.
