Famous Lumbee activist, and former member of the Greensboro City Council, Lonnie Revels passed away on July 10, 2003.

Born and raised in Robeson County, Revels went on to graduate with a political science degree from Wake Forest University. He then moved to Greensboro and started his own printing firm in 1965.

Revels eventually won a seat on the Greensboro City Council in 1983 and served two terms. Also, he was a charter member of the state’s Commission on Indian Affairs. Revels was even featured in Life magazine when he and a thousand other Lumbee Indians ran the Ku Klux Klan out of Robeson County.

Revels died at 67.
