Barton, Bruce. “As I See It (column): White male files discrimination complaint at RCC.” Carolina Indian Voice 18 May 2001: 2.

Annotation:

Barton discusses the discrimination complaint filed on March 14 by Justin Oliver, a White male serving as director of industrial and economic development at Robeson Community College (RCC). Oliver had applied for the vacant position as vice president of adult and continuing education. Oliver states that RCC president Fred Williams offered the position to him. Then, before an official offer was made to anyone, RCC's Board decided to readvertise the position. RCC Board members Johnny Hunt (Indian) and Dr. Rona Leach (Black) were also candidates for the position. Hunt had been heard to say that President Williams intended to hire an Indian, since an Indian had previously held the position. Williams denied making this statement and also denied offering the position to Oliver. Oliver's complaint is that he was discriminated against because of his race.
