On February 9, 2009, former Robeson County sheriff Glenn Maynor won an appeal in federal court after a ruling that claims the U. S. District Court sentencing judge, Terrence Boyle, did not explain why Maynor's prison sentence was so long. Maynor was sentenced to six years, although 18-24 months was suggested. The judges in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals want "a more significant justification" for Judge Terrence Boyle's sentence. Boyle's decision was vacated and remanded. Maynor will be resentenced at a later, unknown date.
