Rumors of shootings on social media have impacted attendance in Robeson and Dillon County school districts. Robeson County schools had extra security Monday morning at St. Pauls High School, Purnell Swett High School, and Lumberton High School. 2,842 students were absent from six schools. Superintendent Dr. Shanita Wooten released a statement about the false threats which included: "The safety of our students and staff is of paramount importance. We always take any kind of threats against our schools very seriously. The Public Schools of Robeson County will exhaust every resource imaginable and will continue to investigate all threats to the end in partnership with law enforcement and school communities” (par. 15).
