Dubin, Murray. “It's official: they're American Indian, so they can get married.” Philadelphia Inquirer (Pennsylvania) 23 March 1991: A01 (Sunday).
William Dimalanta and Brenda Lynch, who live in Kensington, were not allowed to obtained a marriage license because the Marriage License Bureau did not permit “Native American Indian” as a racial designation on its form. Lynch is Haliwa-Saponi, and Dimalante is Lumbee. Lynch works for United American Indians of the Delaware Valley. After the latter organization's attorney and an administrative judge whose unit oversaw the Marriage License Bureau looked into the matter, the couple were allowed to obtain their license.
