Annotation:

Futch reviews the career and contributions of Dr. Linda Ellen Oxendine, who spent 27 years at UNC-Pembroke and has just entered phased retirement and been named professor emeritus. Oxendine attended the University as a student, served as director of the Native American Resource Center, taught in the American Indian Studies program, and chaired that department until stepping down in 2006. Oxendine's uncle, Adolph Dial, established the American Indian Studies department. Her father, Herbert Oxendine, was Dean of Faculty at the University and chair of the Education Department. Her great-grandfather, W. L. Moore, was one of the founders of the college.  The article includes tributes from several individuals to Oxendine for her contributions and her inspiration.
