FEMA has frozen funding from its Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant for areas impacted by Hurricane Matthew last year in order to tend to immediate needs of people affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Hurricane Matthew cause severe damage and flooding in parts of Robeson County. A statement from a spokeswoman for Governor Roy Cooper says, “‘Governor Cooper is working with our state’s members of Congress and FEMA to get the money we were promised for Matthew recovery because we can’t walk away before the job is done’” (para. 6). According to Joe Stanton of NC Emergency Management, the Disaster Relief funds have been suspended before, and the federal government replenished the funds.
