Maggie Lowrie Locklear is considered by the Lumbee people as a pioneer of civil rights, and a quilt she made was gifted to UNC Pembroke during a recent ceremony. The quilt is sewn into 30 pine cone patch designs, and it was made from scraps of works pants and her own dresses and aprons. It is estimated that 30,000 pieces of fabric were used to create the quilt. The quilt will be displayed at the Museum of the Southeast American Indian, where it will be part of the Lumbee Tribe legacy and story.
