Annotation:

The introduction to the bibliography defines Carolina bays; provides an aerial photograph of Carolina bays in Robeson County; and lists (with source) eighteen theories of their origin. The bibliography lists over 350 published items. Ross defines Carolina bays as shallow depressions, probably formed 10,000-15,000 years ago, which vary in size from smaller than an acre to over 2,000 acres; he states that they “are ubiquitous in all parts of the county” (Ross, One Land, Three Peoples, Karo Hollow Press, 1993, p. 21).
