Shiles, Bob. "Tribal Council wants Lumber River renamed to honor Lumbee." Robesonian [Lumberton, NC] September 21, 2017.

Annotation:

The Lumbee Tribal Council is calling on the state General Assembly to change the name of the Lumber River to the Lumbee River. One of the council members who voted against the change Bill James Brewington, said, "'That’s just not our river. That river belongs to all people. I don’t know how you can make everyone accept it being called the Lumbee River’” (para. 4). There is not a current campaign to change the name, but the council members are sending a letter to legislation. The council members also discussed other points of business.
