Welton Lowry, of the Indian Schoolmasters’ Club, presented the award to Malcolm B. Seawell on March 20, 1959; signers and attendees listed. Seawell lived in Lumberton for many years. Seawell’s appointment by the governor to chair an investigation of Klan activities in the state reminded Barton of the 1959 award.
