68th Cong. 1st Session. H.R. 8083. “A Bill to Designate the Croatan Indians of Robeson and Adjoining Counties in North Carolina as Cherokee Indians.” Introd. by Lyon, 20 March 1924.

Annotation:

Croatans would be renamed Cherokees–without changing their political status or property rights, giving them rights to land or money of other Cherokees, or prohibiting their children’s attendance at federal Indian schools (see Robesonian 17 March 1924: 1). A one-page report, consisting of letters of approval from the House Committee on Indian Affairs and the Dept. of Interior, was printed on 22 May 1924 (H.Rept. no. 826). See debate, Congressional Record , 68th Cong., 1st Session, 5 June 1924, p. 10745.
