Traces Christianity among the Lumbees since the earliest recorded church deed (1792), noting conferences, associations, and the prevalence of Protestantism.  Gustafson analyzes two videotaped interviews with Lumbee religious leaders; writings about Vernon Cooper; and a conversation with a Tuscarora tribal leader, who provided information on conjuring, herbal remedies, root workers, totens, and blowing out fire.  Notes descriptions of similar practices in writings of Gregg, Lawson, and McMillan.
