Gary Willis and Daniel Barbee, PSU faculty, are studying the county’s homicides. Preliminary findings include: (1) from 1982-1987, the homicide rate exceeded rates for Mecklenburg, Wake, Guilford, Forsyth, and Durham Counties; (2) murders usually involve people of the same race; and (3) from 1982-1987, 41.2% of those killed were related to, or romantically involved with, their killers. The state average is 28.8%.
