Leaders re proposing using local bonds to help with funding for schools. Money is needed for school construction as well as a lack of supplies and books. Students need technology like computers, but teachers say that first they need basics like working heat and plumbing. Some funds are being diverted to charter and private schools. Terry Smith, a former board members of Lumberton City Schools, says, “'It’s the county commissioners’ job to adequately finance schools...If they don’t want to do that, the authority should be taken away from them’” (para. 56).
