Annotation: 

The Lumbee Regional Development Association honored the late Betty Jo "Jo Jo" Hunt (1950-1996), the first Lumbee woman awarded a law degree, with a scholarship. The scholarship will award $2,000 to one or more American Indian students studying pre-law or criminal justice . Hunt helped contribute to awareness and recognition of the Lumbee through her positions on the Senate Select Commitee for Indian Affairs, the Indian Health Service, the National Indian Education Advisory Council, and the American Indian Policy Review Commission.
