This impressive website categorizes, describes, and makes available online all but around 12,000 of the 53,000 negatives of photographs taken by Elmer W. Hunt, photographer for UNC-Pembroke from 1953-1973. All of the negatives have been digitized. Many can currently be viewed online; others are still being processed for addition to the website. Each of the publicly available Series that can be viewed online has a search form, allowing site users to search by keyword or browse by name or subject.

The website provides a detailed inventory. Browsing this document will allow users to gain a thorough understanding of the collection and the website. Contained in the inventory are details on how the collection was transferred to UNC-Pembroke, how it was processed, the preferred format for citing images from the collection, a copyright notice, a statement on restrictions to use of the images, a Sensitive Materials Statement (conferring legal protection to UNC-Pembroke if sensitive or confidential materials regarding identifiable living individuals are used), a historical sketch of UNC-Pembroke and a biographical sketch on Hunt.

Also included in the inventory are concise but detailed descriptions of each of the 10 publicly available Series in the collection. Each description notes whether the Series is currently available online, and each includes a link to the full inventory (a PDF document) of the items in the Series. There are 13 Series of photographs. The 3 Series that are not available to the public are: Photographs of individuals; local funerals; and tragic events. There are around 12,000 photographs in these 3 Series. Each of the 10 publicly available Series has a separate inventory that can be downloaded as a PDF.

The website provides, at "Using the Collection," downloadable forms and documents explaining all aspects of use of the materials, including how to request reproductions and the fees involved.
