Shiles, Bob. "Recognition eludes tribe: Tuscaroras frustrated by lack of progress." Robesonian [Lumberton, NC] July 23, 2016.

Annotation:

Despite a petition for recognition presented four years ago, the Tuscarora Nation of North Carolina has been unable to see any action, much to the surprise of North Carolina Senator Jane Smith. While it was noted that the Lumbee commission members have not stepped forward, Mitchell Locklear, beaver chief of the Tuscarora Nation in Maxton, said he does not put the most blame on the Lumbee people.

Locklear did mention mistreatment of the tribe by the government. Smith noted that she will look into the matter, but she will not be involved in disagreements between tribes.
