Annotation:

Tribal Chairman Harvey Godwin Jr. told the Tribal Council that the upcoming site-monitoring report of Lumbee tribal operations by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) could include hundreds of thousands of dollars being misspent.

Godwin had previously made that announcement at the Tribal Council’s March meeting, citing $264,985 in excess travel, activities and programs between October 1, 2012 and March 20, 2015. All of those payments were made under the previous tribal chairman, Paul Brooks. The funds are supposed to be used for housing during training activities for tribal members.

HUD has yet to release any of their reports, and they say that all of the rumors circulating are from the tribe, not the department. Many Lumbee members are concerned that they have not seen the final report, including self-proclaimed community activist Eric Locklear. He believes that Godwin should release all of his information to the public.
