Annotation:

The Lumbee Supreme Court ruled that the recent addition of voting districts was flawed and the former 14 voting districts should be used in the next tribal election. This led to the November 15 election being postponed until December.

A petition from the Lumbee Community Involvement and Engagement Group led to the consideration, and ultimately the decision, to reinstitute the old districts. The petition cited multiple violations of the Lumbee Constitution in the process of drawing the district lines and the “one man, one vote” concept.

Justice Matthew Scott announced that the Supreme Court, the tribal administration and council will work on a redistricting plan for the future.
