Dwight Lowry, the Lumbee major league catcher who died of a heart attack at age 39, was featured in a mural on the wall of the director's conference room of the North Carolina High School Athletics Association Building in Chapel Hill. Lowry played for the Detroit Tigers during most of his major league career. A plaque recognizing the history of Indian basketball in the state now hangs in the lobby of the NCHSAA Building. Bruce Barton and Tim Brayboy are writing a book on the history of Indian basketball, tentatively entitled Playing to a full house: the story of Indian basketball from 1937-1967.
